[James] to connect and try things out.

[James] Seems to be working OK so far.

[James] I am away from the keyboard.

[Master] yo

[James] I am back at the keyboard.

[James] howdy.

[James] Need to get some lunch soon.

[Master] Things seem a lot more stable so far.

[James] That's good.

[Master] Heh, I'm drinking morning corffee.

[James] I've been trying to lay off that stuff.

[Master] Good luck with that. Moderation in all things, right?

[James] Trying to do the herbal tea thing instead of pop or coffee.

[James] Yup.

[Master] nod

[James] Hmmm.... It appears I am woefully behind with keeping track of XP.

[Master] Coffee's way better than pop, I think.

[Master] Heh, I let y'all do that.

[James] I guess I'll need to talk to Chris and Angie.

[James] Well, I'm still at work, and I'll need to get some luch before we start.

[Master] no prob

[James] BTW, I'll have to leave early too.

[James] We're meeting some people (about biz, of course).

[James] I may have to log off by 5pm CST.

[James] It was a last minute thing.

[Master] I'll try to keep things moving. C'est la vie.

[James] And I can't really get out of it.

[James] Alright, lunch first.

[James] I am away from the keyboard.

[Master] ALoha, Ralph.

[Master] I'm getting stuff set up, but we'll be starting in about 45 minutes.

[Master] Please feel free to lurk; there is a summary of the action so far at http://www.blahedo.org/serendair

[Ralph] I am away from the keyboard.

Sedlack has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 07:25:39 GMT-10:00 2005

[Master] Yo.

[Sedlack] Ralph?

[Master] Lurker

[Sedlack] Ah.

[Master] Okay, don't ask for the map individually; that makes Baby Kloogeus cry.

[Sedlack] Okay, I won't.

[Master] Cool -- did you receive the text from before you even connected? That's a nice new feature.

[Sedlack] I did. Haven't read it all yet

[Master] okey-dokey

[Sedlack] BRB.

[Sedlack] I am away from the keyboard.

Client is receiving the map...

Client has received the map.

[Master] Aloha!

[Master] Please note my admonition to Sedlack. :)

[James] I am back at the keyboard.

[James] I am getting dragged into another meeting. Saturday is a regular work day for us.

[Master] Man, you need a new job. :)

[James] So I don't know when I'll be able to actually participate.

[Master] Ok.

[James] I am away from the keyboard.

[Master] Come in and out when you can.

[Angie] hey y'all

Jeff has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 07:44:31 GMT-10:00 2005

[Master] Aloha, Jeff!

[Master] Hey Angie. :)

[Jeff] Hi

[Master] Grabbing the map makes Baby Kloogeus cry.

Jeff is receiving the map...

Jeff has received the map.

[Master] A-hem!

[Jeff] oops

[Master] :)

[Angie] Is there an IP Ryan can use to connect?

[Master] 66.91.93.117

[Angie] He is not seeing any games available when he trys to start klooge

[Master] Are you both behind the same router?

[Angie] Yes

[Master] And is he using ZoneAlarm? Because Klooge and ZoneAlarm fight.

[Master] Firewalls in general might be issues.

Tamora has left the game on Sat Sep 10 07:47:07 GMT-10:00 2005

[Master] Hm.

[Angie] He has never heard of Zone alarm

[Master] What OS is he running?

[Angie] But we are behaind a firewall

[Master] On your Router?

[Master] Then you'll have to configure the Router to forward the appropriate ports.

[Angie] we are both on WIndows XP

[Master] Okay, first things first:

[Master] Go to your Network Connections and right-click on the connection you use to access the internet (probably LAN connection).

[Master] Select "Properties"

Tamora has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 07:48:33 GMT-10:00 2005

[Sedlack] I am back at the keyboard.

[Master] In that dialog box, one of the tabs says something like "Security" or such. Hang on, I'll look it up.

[Master] XP has a software firewall that HATES Klooges. It HATES it! HATES IT!

[Master] Okay, that dialog box has a tab named "Advanced."

[Master] In that section, there's a checkbox to turn your software firewall on or off. Make sure it's off.

[Master] Then we'll start on your router.

[Master] ok?

[Angie] My computer says the windows firewall is off

[Master] How about Ryan's?

[Angie] just a sec

[Jeff] I am away from the keyboard.

Client has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 07:56:42 GMT-10:00 2005

[Tamora] Hi all

Ryan has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 07:57:18 GMT-10:00 2005

[Master] Aloha!

[Master] Was the software firewall the issue?

[Sedlack] Hi, Ryan.

[Ryan] Nope. Hvae never used the winblows firewall.

[Tamora] ooh, there are pop-up thumbnails of the images in the Campaign window.

[Master] Please do not download the map on your own; that makes me sad.

[Master] Hunh. The next thing to check would be the router, but you're here, so I"m happy.

[Jared] mornin

[Master] Buenos!

[Sedlack] Mornin'

[Ryan] Guten tag.

[Master] Ralph is lurking to get a feel for the Kloogery.

[Master] We're waiting for Joe and Don, looks like.

[Jared] as a favor, if anyone is watching the ND mich game, dont tell m about it.

[Master] Heh.

[Angie] Our background is Chuthullu Carols

[Ryan] Cthulhu

[Sedlack] Thanks for reminding me...I need to put on some music

[Angie] I assume we are still in the same day (for counting haste rounds from the boots)??

[Ralph] I am back at the keyboard.

[Master] Yes.

[Jeff] I am back at the keyboard.

[Ralph] <-lurking to get feel of Kloogery

[Angie] Can we do a chat color check to see if we have any too close?

[Tamora] still purple

[Ryan] You always used to be bluer, Angie.

[Jeff] test

[Tamora] Angie's was conflicting with Don's, I think, so you can't check that until he gets in...

[Master] ???: Grapple: 16

[Master] Heh.

[Angie] test

[Jeff] Roger: Grapple: (d20+0) [13+0] 13

[Angie] When I first started Klooge it was very Green

[Sedlack] I am Mr. Orange

Client has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 08:04:35 GMT-10:00 2005

[Jeff] I should have a -4 penalty to grapple right?

[Master] Aloha! Please don't download the map.

[Sedlack] I'm seeing a strange behavior...every so often, the chat window "jumps" way up towards the top for no apparent reason

[Master] Yeah, if you've done your Size thing right . . . and if Klooge cares.

[Master] That may be because of me.

[Master] I'm doing some various additions of critters and whatnot; I'll let you know when I'm about to start one.

[Sedlack] Hi, Don!

[Don] Hi all

[Don] Wow, some really nice changes to the chat box.

[Master] Okay, we're waiting on Joe for a few seconds, then we launch.

[Tamora] Can Chris and Michael have slightly more distinct colors please?

[Master] Hey, Chris, did your chat box just bounce around again?

[Sedlack] Nope

[Master] Tam -- that's a function of the laptop moniitor; red is muted on it for some reason.

[Master] I'll see what I can do.

[Sedlack] I see my color and Mike's as being quite different

[Don] Like, being part of the session rather than saved locally. Also, saving screenshots.

[Master] Chris is orange and I am yellow, but with red muted...

[Tamora] Oh, I see. Chris is a very yellow-y orange for me. Oh well.

[Don] Chris could make his orange a smidge redder, maybe?

[Tamora] I will cope :)

[Master] I'll just claim white.

[Master] Since no one else has.

[Tamora] With Turc out, yeah.

[Master] That's who had it, I remember now.

[Sedlack] If I make my orange too red, it might get confused for Joe

[Master] Okay, Joe said his life is a bit full right now, so I'm gonna give it another few minutes, then launch.

[Sedlack] And by his life, he means Laura's diaper

[Ryan] Ss'sra: Garfield's Grapple: (d20+28) [9+28] 37

[Master] Egad.

[Ryan] Biiiiiiig KItty-kat.

[Master] Okay, did everyone get a chance to read the summary thus far?

[Angie] I did

[Sedlack] Yep

[Jeff] yes

[Defthon (Don)] Jawohl

[Master] So we're down in the dungeon, having just defeated the Djinni and demon hordes, which is pretty cool.

[Ryan] Si.

[Defthon (Don)] Icons! We have icons in the chat box! Verra nice-ah.

[Ryan] Efreeti. Djinni are air genies.

[Master] Expect a short delay as I send the map.

[Master] Efreet, thank you.

[Angie] Don, I think you have something set in preferences to put icons in the chat box

[Angie] Yours is the only chat I get an icon with

[Master] Woo!

[Ryan] Can I set preferences so that I *don't* see them?

[Master] I imagine so.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] I think that happens when you "Chat as..."

[Tamora] Does everyone get a message as I fix my character sheet, or just myself and Michael?

[Turcanaur (Angie)] eal

[Turcanaur (Angie)] est

[Don] Testing OOC...

[Don] Nice.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] test

[Master] I'll cover Turc for this next bit.

[Turcanaur (Angie)] test

[Dralafi (Jared)] test

[Lia (Angie)] test

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] glack! I HATE it. It halves the amount of text you can see at a time.

[Master] Heh, wander around Preferences and you can prolly disable it.

[Ryan] Not that I could find.

[Master] Hm, we shoudl mention that on the forum.

[Master] Okay, onward!

[Ryan] Please do.

[Don] Try "Chat icon size" in the bottom half of prefs.

[Master] Ooh, clever.

[Defthon (Don)] Moving along.

[Lia (Angie)] test

[Master] You realign yourselves to continue down the corridor, allowing (hah!) Vel to take the lead.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] test

[Ryan] Nice idea, Don, b no joy.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] ^b^but

[Tamora] test

[Don] It affects map chat but not dock chat. I've recorded the bug.

[Master] (*pause for dramatic effect*)

[Shottamip (Tamora)] test

[Ryan] Spasiba.

[Defthon (Don)] So Vel, what do you see?

[Lia (Angie)] it worked for tami?

[Master] With a sound in your ears close to that of surfacing from a long dive, you find yourself trudging out the front of the cave door.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] This is where that last hallway led?

[Master] You feel oddly defeated, though you know that you were successful in your mission and have not only secured the assistance of the Order of the Open Palm but made this area safe for ordinary people again.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] So "dramatic effect" is a code phrase for "map downloading"?

[Wu] You return!

[Joanne] Hey!

[Lia (Angie)] OOC that's IT?

[Master] You see a few monks standing guard, a gaggle to the west practicing their Arts, and a few to the right resting and fooling around.

[Master] OOC: Of course not. Have some faith.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Um... didn't *notice* a teleport trap.

[Ryan] I thought monks were forbidden to fool around.

[Sedlack] I thought there was going to be more to the cave

[Master] A soft breeze ruffles the grass; the air is crisp and peaceful.

[Sedlack] ...but...for how long?

[Lia (Angie)] Is this real?

[Ryan] Or is it Memorex?

[Turcanaur] Yes, we have ended the cause of the monsters; this area is safe once more.

[Wu] Truly, this is a great day, the culmination of many generations of struggle! We are blessed to witness it!

[Velkyna] (muttering) This whole fucking continent is on opium.

[Turcanaur] (quietly signals you to trust him and follow his lead)

[Joanne] Seriously, that's it?

Turcanaur nods.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] That's... some complicated signal.

[Turcanaur] Indeed; this calls for a celebration, no?

[Ryan] Thank you, Tami.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] I didn't realize monks had parties

[Ryan] =)

[Master] (Heh, he also says so through the Message spell.)

[Roger (Jeff)] Party!!

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] I am suspicious. Was there not more to the cave?

[Wu] We shall invite the villagers and tell them the news!

[Roger (Jeff)] Shhhh!

[Roger (Jeff)] Party!!

[Lia (Angie)] Villagers?

Defthon (Don) looks around warily.

Wu smiles.

[Lia (Angie)] OOC HATE the chat icons

[Wu] Our vassals, of course. We are not great farmers.

[Master] I hear ya. Definitely gotta mention a toggle.

Wu claps his hands.

Joe has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 08:24:35 GMT-10:00 2005

[Wu] Arise from your play, students! Let us begin our work!

[Sedlack] JOE!

Master give JOe a chance to catch up on the Chat history.

[Tamora] Now that chat messages in the map window can be set to less opacity, I'm using that as my primary chat viewing - it shows more.

[Joe] I can't stay long. I have to leave in a few minutes.

[Joe] I mostly wanted to make sure everything worked.

[Master] No prob.

[Master] And it works like buttah.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] /ooc testing

[Master] Okay, then.

Wu organizes his students and begins the short journey back to the Order.

[Lia (Angie)] Via message - is anyone else wierded out by this?

[Joanne] What happened? What was down there? Tell me everything!

[Turcanaur] There was . . . divine intervention.

Ss'sra (Ryan) massages "Yes"

[Turcanaur] I will have to ask you to trust me until more can be revealed.

[Defthon (Don)] Vel's gonna love that.

[Ryan] ^massage^message

[Velkyna (Joe)] Terrible things. But we're okay.

[Lia (Angie)] OK divine interventaion counts as weird

[Turcanaur] Come, my friends; this will be the last meal I share with you for some time.

[Ryan] go back to chatting in red, Joe. You look strange in green.

[Velkyna (Joe)] (I'm onnit0

[Turcanaur] I must remain here for a time.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] What's up, Turc?

[Velkyna (Joe)] It's taking a minute or three to acclimate to the new interface.

[Ryan] thx.

[Joanne] Ooh, what kind of terrible things?

[Ryan] btw, how did you make your chat cion small?

[Velkyna (Joe)] Well, how about a twelve foot tall demon spider for starters?

[Turcanaur] I find myself the Head of an Order, with precepts I must discuss with my subordinates. I feel somewhat unprepared, so I will be spending a great deal of time meditating, I expect.

[Joanne] Okay, now you're just shitting me. Seriously.

[Velkyna (Joe)] No. No, I'm not.

[Lia (Angie)] We are almost always serious about combat

[Joanne] Where do twelve foot tall demon spiders come from? Do they eat four foot tall devil flies?

Joanne looks at Lia, and looks suddenly intimidated by her might.

[Joanne] Um, yeah, sorry.

[Velkyna (Joe)] I'm not terribly clear on the "where they come from" but I'm guessing "hell".

[Lia (Angie)] I've stopped worrying were things come from if I can kill them

[Velkyna (Joe)] Good point.

[Joanne] So this was a Portal to Hell? I thought that was, you know, a waddaycall. Simile.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Very practical, our Lia.

[Lia (Angie)] Some are more similar than others

Turcanaur begins leading the Party back to the Order as you chat.

[Velkyna (Joe)] "Hell if I know," she says with an ironic smirk.

[Ryan] I never metaphor I didn't five...

[Don] *groan*

Joanne coughs.

[Joanne] Velkyna Humorslayer.

Joanne runs off before Vel can translate.

[Master] (er, interpret)

[Lia (Angie)] ooc test

Velkyna (Joe) just smirks.

Joanne sighs theatrically and lets everyone catch up.

[Lia (Angie)] wy chat icon will not resize

[Master] No clue.

[Master] I have the same problem.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Should we tell them we left a gold-addicted delver in the cave?

[Shottamip (Tamora)] \ooc I did get them all smaller in the map chat

[Joe] Anyhoo, I do have to motor. Sorry I wasn't able to stick around.

[Turcanaur] That has been seen to.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] How so?

[Master] Thanks for stopping by!

[Joe] Have fun!

[Sedlack] Later, Joe!

[Joe] Let me know when the logs are up.

Joe has left the game on Sat Sep 10 08:36:28 GMT-10:00 2005

[Turcanaur] He has accepted Charis's grace and walks a path of redemption.

[Lia (Angie/ LIA)] I get your's smaller but not mine

[Angie/ LIA] test

[Angie/ LIA] I'll just use the modified session name

[Angie/ LIA] rather than chat as

[Master] ok

[Turcanaur] The rest of the day is nearly perfect, a strange respite from the fighting and storms which have plagued you since you arrived on this continent.

[Master] Heh, that shoulda been OOC.

[LIA (Angie)] ya ya

[LIA (Angie)] OOC still practising

[Ryan] I must say I feel disappointed. We were in a dungeon, killing things. All was right with the world. This peaceful stuff is downright annoying. =)

[Master] That evening, you feast, depleting the Order's stores. About fifty peasants, community leaders, arrive and join in, and the news is spread that the area near the cave is now safe for settlement.

[Lia (Angie)] Will the Order be able to help at all with the baron situation?

[Master] hang on a sec

[Lia (Angie)] OR assist the elves?

[Master] (go ahead and separate yourselves out.)

[Master] (Imagine some peasants. :) )

[Wu] Lady Lia, yes, we shall vote as Turcanaur instructs us at the Moot.

[Wu] I imagine his thoughts will be in line with yours.

[Turcanaur] Er, yes.

[Wu] Or was that not what you referred to?

[Lia (Angie)] Is there any assistance you can offer the elves?

[Lia (Angie)] That was part of what I was thinking

Wu thinks.

[Lia (Angie)] There are also many currently under his power not by choice.

[Lia (Angie)] I don't know if there is any way to help them.

[Master] (sorry, had you all on "Clients cannot move"; try now.

[Lia (Angie)] Ss'sra and his people are a perfect example

[Wu] Is that so, Ss'sra? It is said that the Lizardmen are perfectly loyal to Eflense, uncorruptable.

[Lia (Angie)] Their leadres have been seriosly misled

[Wu] It is the nature of mortals to be misled; we are separated from the All, and so our vision is obscured by the self.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] I must remind you that I am supposed to be dead. No word of my presence here can be allowed to get back to him.

Wu nods. I

[Wu] I shall be especially careful, as shall those of my Order who have seen you true form.

Ss'sra (Ryan) looks exactly like a normal human all the time, I remind you. Hat of Disguise. "Bob Smith" and all that.

[Ralph] I am away from the keyboard.

[Ryan] Huh? How has anyone here seen my true form?

[Master] Thanks for the reminder -- we'll just say that Turc mentioned it to Wu.

[Lia (Angie)] I feel it is important to help otheres see as clearly as possible

[Wu] Some few of us are unusually difficult to mislead with illusion.

[Wu] I shall speak to them.

[Tamora] Lia is anti-Hat of Disguise.

[Ryan] Then I should smack Turc upside the head for not clearing it with me first!

[Lia (Angie)] Just anti political shroud

[Master] Yeah, we'll handle that better henceforward, thanx.

Ss'sra (Ryan) Thank you. I am supposed to be undercover. I know my icon is a lizardman, but I always look human.

[Wu] I am not certain what assistance we can lend the elves; the Order is not an army by any stretch, and we are far from the Orcish border.

[Lia (Angie)] I dont think the Moot is the only problem

[Wu] What request do you have of us, then? Turcanaur is of course our master, but until he has earned the loyalty of our students -- as he inevitably shall -- I will be of what help I can.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Of course it's not the only problem, but it is a problem that has a deadline for being solved

[Ryan] OK, now that that's cleared up, I can join the in-character conversation...

[Lia (Angie)] There are also many people who will be less able to defend themselves if any armies get past the elves

Joanne watches these exchanges, wide-eyed.

[Wu] Of course; the Order is charged with the protection of its vassals, a charge which we have always held to.

[Lia (Angie)] Ss'sra, is there any way we might get some help to your people?

[Lia (Angie)] Or better information to their leaders?

[Master] "Bob Smith" is probably a better way to speak; my badd for saying Ss'sra in the first place.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] The Lizard Folk are loyal to their leaders. Eflense has given some of their leaders great power, in return for a betrayal of their heritage. They can still be brought back to their natural path, but they would first need safety against Eflense's wrath. That probably requires his death.

[Lia (Angie)] OK, Bob then

Wu nods.

[Wu] Then that is beyond the power of the Order.

[Ryan] Yes, I should always be called "Bob" in direct address, unless you want to get even more of my people killed...

[Master] Down, boy. ;)

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] At this time.

Aedean (Sedlack) mulls his thoughts silently

Don has left the game on Sat Sep 10 08:57:15 GMT-10:00 2005

[Master] eek?

[Lia (Angie)] Is there any way to help them if he is dead?

[Lia (Angie)] The system he set up would still exist

[Aedean (Sedlack)] If you cut off the head of his system, the body would likely die

Don has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 08:58:28 GMT-10:00 2005

[Wu] From what I know of Eflense, he would not think to create otherwise.

[Lia (Angie)] So how can we help make sure Bob's people are not part of that death?

[Sedlack] Hmm...I got the text jump when Don showed up.

[Lia (Angie)] I think they are currently in the position of fall guy if anything goes wrong

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] New ways rarely survive their founder, unless he rules a long time and can ensure the orderly succession of a like-minded subordinate.

Wu nods.

[Don] Sorry about that---I was trying the new "map save" feature. Ah well.

[Wu] I have meditated on the larger question, of what political action you make take to thwart Eflense.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Indeed. He has no love for them, and will more readily sacrifice them than his human followers.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Do tell.

[Lia (Angie)] Any clarity seen?

[Wu] You are the sharpest tip of the strongest spear seen in Saxlund in generations, other than Eflense.

[Wu] Actions which are known to be impossible are your great strength. You have sealed the Demon Cave. You must retrieve Wee Jas's Dagger and thereby gain the fealty of the Necropolis.

[Defthon (Don)] Lovely.

[Tamora] Is that new?

[Wu] Eflense will not think of this, because Eflense, for all his cleverness, deals in that which can be done.

[Sedlack] Yesh! I bet there will be undead

[Master] Yes.

[Lia (Angie)] OOC I' lost

[Don] Joe'll be sad he missed this. ;)

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Thank you for the advice, Master Wu. Please tell us more.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Lovely.

[Lia (Angie)] I'm

[Master] OOC this is a new plot point.

[Sedlack] The Necropolis (and the city of Denburg) is one of the groups that gets a vote at the moot

[Defthon (Don)] So, where is the dagger now?

[Don] Someone remind me: WJ is which alignment again?

[Lia (Angie)] OOC am I supposed to know who/what Necropolos is?

[Wu] On the outskirts of Densburg, in the badlands which hem in that city, is a House of the Dead.

[Master] It's been mentioned before, but never really fully discussed.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] LE

[Don] That's what I thought. :(

[Master] Wee Jas is LN.

[Tamora] much better!

[Don] Ok, that's a bit better then.

[Lia (Angie)] Nuetral I can work with

[Lia (Angie)] Evil makes me nervous

[Wu] Many have entered the house. None have returned. Yet, none of those wretches forced to live near it feel evil effects.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Interesting...

[Wu] It is known that an Artifact of Death is within the House's walls, and the Dagger has not been seen for many generations. As a child, I chased such rumors as a hobby.

[Wu] I am certain that Wee Jas's Dagger is to be found in the bowels of the House of the Dead on Densburg's edge. And I am certain that of all those in Saxlund, only you can retrieve it.

[Wu] What you do with it -- wield it, or barter it for the loyalty of the Necropolis, is up to you.

[Lia (Angie)] Any idea what kind of Artifact of Death?

[Master] Bardic Knowledge and/or KNowledge: Religion check for details on the Dagger. Very high DC; it is Serendair-specific.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Aedean: Knowledge (religion) check:(d20+1+2) [6+1+2] 9

[Sedlack] Woo!

[Wu] Heh, I'm not sure a natural 20 would have done it. :)

[Master] dang it.

[Lia (Angie)] Is anyone rolling for James?

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Someone want to roll for James?

[Wu] Arkady: bardic knowledge check:25

[Master] that was weird.

[Master] no luck.

Wu waits for this to sink in.

[Wu] I can provide you with directions to this place.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] That would be a great help.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] We would be grateful.

Wu sketches a map and describes how to get there to those who are interested in listening.

[Master] I'm thinking I'd like to break for lunch about 11 AM our time, btw. Is that compatible with other people?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] That would be 3 PM Central?

[Master] Are we still in DST?

[Defthon (Don)] Yes.

[Tamora] 2 hours from now.

[Master] Then 4 PM.

[Lia (Angie)] OK by me

[Sedlack] That should work fine

[Don] That works for me.

[Master] THanks; that'll give me time to finish stocking the dungeon.

[Master] Any other questions for Wu before we move forward?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] None here.

[Lia (Angie)] Any assistance for the elves?

[Lia (Angie)] Trade, etc

[Wu] We would, of course, accept any elven student of good heart, but with Czina closed and us so far away from other avenues of trade . . . I see little role for us there.

Aedean (Sedlack) wanders off to prepare himself for what will, no doubt, be a great test of his skills

[Lia (Angie)] Do you have communication with other religious orders in Saxlund?

[Master] Yeah, get your spell lists and other suchlike together.

[Tamora] So rest, reset things, etc.?

[Wu] We are not truly a religious order, but no one has spoken to the Paladins for some time.

[Master] Yep.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] We have.

[Lia (Angie)] I think opening some communication lines could help

[Wu] We speak occasionally to the Clerics and the Rangers, but . . . what was that?

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] We have spoken to the paladins. We freed them from their magical imprisonment.

Wu smiles broadly.

[Wu] I am more certain than ever of your path, then. You shall do impossible deed after impossible deed, until you do the truly impossible and defeat Eflense.

[Master] hang on, contact issues.

[Wu] I am away from the keyboard.

[Lia (Angie)] thanks for the vote of confidence

[Wu] I am back at the keyboard.

[Master] Okay, anyone who is not currently ready to continue to Densburg, raise your hand.

[James] I am back at the keyboard.

[Master] Woo!

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Me.

[James] I'll only be able to stay a short while.

[Master] okey-dokey. Take your time.

[Master] Snif! Well, at least get caught on up. :)

[Aedean (Sedlack)] I have a relatively large number of adjustments to make

[Don] Can't find my PH right now---can someone tell me what the max turning is for Paladins?

[Don] I have a formula written down, but I'm not sure it's right.

[Master] Jared, could you handle that?

[Dralafi (Jared)] one sec

[Don] Actually, I just need the turning formula for clerics, I can get from there to paladins.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Pally turns as level-2 cleric

[Lia (Lia (Angie))] test

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Turning check determines the maximum HD of undead you can affect:

[Aedean (Sedlack)] It's a Cha check

[Dralafi (Jared)] cleric -3 isnt it?

[Dralafi (Jared)] sorry, paladin levels -3

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] clr - 2

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Nope. Cleric -2. PH, p.140

[Dralafi (Jared)] huh. must be using the wrong ph

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] # per day is 3 + CHA mod.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Turn check result up to 0: Clr level -4 (Pal -6)

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 1-3: Pal-5

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 4-6: Pal - 4

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 7-9: Pal -3

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 10-12: Pal -2

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 13-15: Pal -1

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 16-18: Pal

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 19-21: Pal +1

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 22+: Pal+2

[Dralafi (Jared)] (yeah, sorry, changed between 3 and 3.5e)

[Master] They toned down Paladins a hair, but gave them access to some fun new Feats, so it works out.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Turning damage is 2d6+(cleric level/pal-2)+Cha modifier

[Aedean (Sedlack)] This is the total number of HD actually affected

[Aedean (Sedlack)] If your turn level is greater or equal to undead's HD, they're destroyed, rather than turned

[Master] You know, Ben Folds Five isn't aways on, but "Rockin' the Suburbs" just rules.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] What the status of people's "Lesser Scarabs of Protection"?

[Roger (Jeff)] I don't have one

[James] Arkady still has his.

[Dralafi (Jared)] none for me

[Lia (Angie)] I think I still have mine?

[James] You're talking about the death ward amulets we got when we were going up against the bodaks, right?

[Shottamip (Tamora)] I am still carrying mine, but not wearing it by default.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Yeah, that's what I'mtalking abotu

[Master] Hey, a general note -- I've got a story I want to tell, but I want to make sure that the style matches the way you want to roleplay. I've been responding to the loud and repeated requests for dungeon crawls, but if you feel it's being overdone, let me know. Also, if your character is playing a role in the Party which is not as satisfying as you might like, get me posted. You know what I mean?

[Master] I also accept compliments. As a matter of fact, I derive sustenence from them, in manner similar to photosynthesis.

[James] I still think about Gristle the dwarven axe fighter. But I probably don't have the energy to work on that either.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Second question: Is there anyone who is NOT wearing a Cloak of Resistance, or other saving-throw-boosting equipment?

[Joanne] Um?

[Lia (Angie)] dungeon crawls good

[Praxis] Yo. But, you know, yeah.

[Defthon (Don)] Don't think so... nope.

[Dralafi (Jared)] im not

[Lia (Angie)] I like hitting things

[James] Arkady just has a +1 to all saving throws, and that's it.

[Defthon (Don)] Actually, nemmind, I do: my Cha-boosting cloak boosts my saves.

[Lia (Angie)] The sword does all for me

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Third question: Is Joanne going to come into the House of the Dead?

[Joanne] And the answer is, "Fuck no."

[Tamora] Shot's not wearing anything that helps with saving throws - since Charisma doesn't help.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Just checking...

[James] She's not gonna get any XP that way...

[Ryan] I have no save-boosters.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] That's okay. She's learning wisdom from our stories.

[Lia (Angie)] If Joaane isn't coming, where should she stay?

Ss'sra (Ryan) snorts derisively

[Joanne] In a hotel. With pillows. And schnapps.

[Ryan] Wisdom, from *us*?

[Lia (Angie)] Who is paying for this hotel?

[Joanne] Oh, like you can't spring for it.

[Joanne] Ms. "My armor is worth more than most kingdoms."

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Oh, as if we don't carry *gold* while they charge in silver or copper.

[Arkady (James)] Joanne: Aren't you a little young to be hitting the hard stuff?

[Joanne] I'm also a little young to sit and wait while my friends try to get killed, so I figure it evens out.

[Defthon (Don)] I think Vel's worst habits have been rubbing off on her.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] It's safer - the harder the liquor, the fewer cases of cholera.

[Joanne] Besides, it's not like it's tequila -- that stuff's bad news.

Joanne shudders at some personal memory.

[Lia (Angie)] You just have to get the good stuff

[Lia (Angie)] Tequila can be quite smoth

[Lia (Angie)] smoothe

[Lia (Angie)] smooth

[Arkady (James)] Goldschlager burns all the way down. Never again.

[Defthon (Don)] So about this dagger.

[Defthon (Don)] How are we getting to the Necropolis?

[Master] By carpet, I imagine.

[Master] Okay, some description:

[Master] From what you've gathered, the Necropolis is a large neighborhood, very heavily built up, of Densburg.

[Master] It is the demesne of the Clerics and Wizards of Wee Jas, who handle funerial rites for the extremely wealthy and operate a few schools of magic and other useful skills.

[Master] The clerics tend to arrive whenever a large number of people have died -- due to plague, famine, or war -- and take on the unpleasant task of enumerating and burying/burning the dead.

[Ryan] I said WJ was LE because that's what I seem to remember she used to be, though I admit the 3E PHB does say LN. Have I been retconned?

[Master] They guard their independence and privacy jealously, so they are not well known.

[Master] Ryan -- dunno, honestly. I didn't do a lot of D&D pre-3E.

[Ryan] Anyone else?

[Shottamip (Tamora)] I don't think we visited Densburg on our unexpected teleporting tour of Saxlund, did we?

[Sedlack] that's a joe question

[Master] That's correct; Densburg is as-yet unvisited territory.

[Don] Joe would know for sure. I had been thinking LE, but LN sounds right too. *shrug*

[Master] The folks who played at our house back in Morton Grove have met a cleric of Wee Jas, but he was LN -- Jaan Skyle, if you'll recall.

[Sedlack] as an illusion, invis is no good against undead, right?

[Lia (Angie)] with the pet skeletons

[Arkady (James)] Yes, Angie reminded me.

[Master] Is that how it works?

[Ryan] She's not in the 1983 World of Greyhawk set, and there are boxes covering the shelf with my 2e setting collection...

[Arkady (James)] Well, for the stupid undead invis shouldn't work.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] There is a spell called "invisibility to undead"...

[Arkady (James)] For the ones with INT 8+, you'd think it might.

[Lia (Angie)] OOCTHis counts as "working for the elves" right?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Yes, but invis to undead is not an illusion

[Master] Angie -- Yes, most certianly. It's part of defeating Eflense.

[Sedlack] this is why I'm asking Kimmitt. This is a MM thing

[Lia (Angie)] Cool, sword powers activated

[Master] *looks it up*

[Master] Undead are immune to "poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, death effects, and necromantic effects,

[Master] and they ignore mind-influencing effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects).

[Master] jas fone

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Okay, then...I *think* that as a glamer, invis might be okay

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] But Invisibility is a glamer, so it's OK.

[Sedlack] What do people's Fortitude saves look like?

[James] Arkady is +8

[Defthon (Don)] +12, is that good?

[Dralafi (Jared)] +8

[Roger (Jeff)] Roger: Fortitude save: (d20+9) [11+9] 20

[Roger (Jeff)] 9

[Lia (Angie)] +9

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] +9

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Shottamip: Fortitude save: (d20+8) [16+8] 24

[Aedean (Sedlack)] vel is +14, I'm +12

[Master] Okey dokey.

[Master] We all set?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Still working...My badd

[Master] No problem; part of the game.

[Master] We'll get things set up over the next hour, break for lunch, and start crawling after lunch.

[Tamora] So, while Chris works, what offensive spells are going to be best?

[Roger (Jeff)] Fireball!!!

[Tamora] fireball and magic missile are both fine, I think; will hold monster work?

[Tamora] I know negative energy is BAD.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] No. Hold monster is a compulsion

[Aedean (Sedlack)] slow is okay, though

[Tamora] good, but let someone else check my questions while you work :)

[Master] Hey, what's the keyboard command to zoom in/out on a map?

[Master] Nemmind, problem solved.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] do undead have thoughts to detect?

[Master] Some do, most don't.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] We still have the Ring of Wizardry (III), right?

[Master] I believe that was allocated, but yes.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] What exactly doe that do, again?

[Dralafi (Jared)] tap to summon tim

[James] doubles 3rd level spells, right?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Who's pesently using it?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] (I assume Roger...)

[Master] Or, you know, Shottamip. For pure cheese.

[Roger (Jeff)] I thought Shot

[James] It would be wasted on Arkady, though that doesn't stop him for coveting it.

[Lia (Angie)] I'm not sure Roger is the best choice

[Shottamip (Tamora)] I've got - 16 fireballs a day, without using any higher spell slots.

[James] Actually, Roger would probably be the better choice, because he has to memorize spells.

[Lia (Angie)] That works

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Oops, that was supposed to be "I've got it".

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Oh, it's arcane only. nemmind.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] But if we really want to reallocate it, I could be convinced.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] I thought it was "prepared spellcasters only"

[Aedean (Sedlack)] My badd

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Hmm. it's still not decrementing my spell counts, so that'll have to be done manually again. I had hoped they would fix that.

[Master] Sorry.

[Master] Chris, tell me when you're ready.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] almost there

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Raise your hand if BOTH of the following are true:

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 1) You do not have a Scarab and

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 2) Your fortitude save is less than +10

Ss'sra (Ryan) raises hand

Roger (Jeff) raises hand

Dralafi (Jared) raises hand

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Okay, prepped spells are:

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Lev. 0: Det. Magic (x2), Read Magic, Resistance (x3)

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Lev.1: Entropic Shield (D), Bless (x2), Invis. to Undead, Divine Favor(x2), Det. Evil, Sanctuary

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Lev. 2: Invisibility (D), Endurance (x4), Lesser Restoration (x2)

[Master] ENDURE.

Tamora has left the game on Sat Sep 10 10:31:18 GMT-10:00 2005

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Lev. 3: Prot. from Elements (D), Mag. Circle v. Evil, Searing Light(x2), Negative Energy Prot. (x2)

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Lev. 4: Freedom of Movement (D), Death Ward (x3), Restoration

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Lev. 5: Break Enchantment (D), Flame Strike (x3)

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Lev. 6: Mislead (D), Heal (x2)

[Master] Rock and roll.

[Master] After a few hours of frenzied consultation, followed by a full night's rest, you load up on the carpets and make the journey to Densburg. It takes a couple of days (INTENTIONALLY LEFT VAGUE), but you reach the outskirts and spot the appropriate area.

[Master] I assume you land and approach on foot?

[Ryan] The place we're going is inside the town?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] What does the surrounding area look like?

[Master] On the very outskirts, but yes.

[Master] Nasty, rugged territory. Useless for either farming or grazing.

Tamora has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 10:36:33 GMT-10:00 2005

[Master] A few poor souls live along the road, hunting and stealing for their sustenence.

[Master] (The road leading out of Densburg to Points West, that is.)

[James] Huh, that's interesting.

[Master] Densburg itself is a city which exists because it really ought to.

[Lia (Angie)] ????

[Master] At the junction of two major rivers, Densburg's lifeblood is trade -- food and other bulk goods

[Master] which come down the river, manufacturing goods from local artisans sent back.

[Master] The Necropolis only adds to Densburg's status as the largest city in Saxlund.

[Master] Despite this, the land surrounding Densburg is some of the most desolate and rugged in the area.

[Master] Only a small area near the riverbank is at all flat, so the city is heavily built up, almost caged in by the cliffs and valleys that surround it.

[James] BTW, doing normal 2x GMW on arrows, 1x GMW on xbow bolts.

[Master] Water is particularly difficult to find, which means that the aqueducts are likely the largest single public works project in Saxlund.

[Master] You have a sense that Densburg is a city where there is a great deal of money to be made, and a great deal of misery to be found.

[James] I presume you mean "clean water", what with the rivers and all (which are likely to be polluted).

[Don] Those two do always seem to go together.

[Don] testing

[Master] The rivers are not too bad; let's keep in mind that this is pre-industrial, so the runoff is of sewage, rather than chemicals -- and Densburg is the origin of most of the runoff.

[Master] You circle for a bit to make certain that there is no danger to landing, and land in the closest clear area, a couple hundred yards to the west of the House.

[Master] (sending map)

[Roger (Jeff)] Ok, guys this is what I think we should do: Find bad guys and blast them with magic

Tamora has left the game on Sat Sep 10 10:47:07 GMT-10:00 2005

[James] Shouldn't that be "Blow shit up with magic?"

[Defthon (Don)] An admirable sentiment, but a little vague on details.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Which of the buildings is THE HOUSE?

[James] Well, should we scout around a bit?

[Dralafi (Jared)] Do enchaned arrows qualify for he purposes of this plan?

[Lia (Angie)] keep in mind we are lookingfor the dagger

[Defthon (Don)] To some extent, we've already scouted on the carpet.

[Defthon (Don)] We are west of the city right now, yes?

[Master] Yes.

[James] We've got people with detect magic, so it should show up pretty brightly.

[James] If we get our mitts on it.

[Defthon (Don)] Let's head on towards the House. Our scouts can scout.

[James] SFine.

[Master] Praxis flies up and gets a gander at what's inside the walls.

Tamora has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 10:49:52 GMT-10:00 2005

[Master] The House itself is set into a cliff, built of white marble somehow immaculate.

[Master] The grounds are an intricate mosaic, untouched by time, debris, or human hands.

[Master] The front gate is also somewhat baroque, a heavy oaken door carved with various designs. This is a place of strange wealth.

[Defthon (Don)] Is there evil to be detected here?

[Master] All of this is hidden by the walls from the view of passersby.

[Ryan] ToEE: never use the front door!

[Master] Def -- not within your range.

[Master] What do you do?

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Look for another way in.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Before we get too far, I have some Endurances to pass

[Tamora] Well, either we walk up, or we go fly someone/everyone inside the walls.

[Master] The House is set into the cliff face; you would have to search the local grounds for some time to attempt to find an egress.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] out

[Lia (Angie)] OOC we still have Joanne with us?

[Master] OOC, yes.

[Joanne] You know, I think I'll wait out here. A hotel would be worse, somehow.

[Sedlack] Sebby says hi

[Roger (Jeff)] I have rope and a grappling hook

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Vel could check the front door for traps

[Tamora] So if we have a Scarab we should put it on for this...

[Sedlack] I would tend to say yes

[Lia (Angie)] yes

[Arkady (James)] Praxis, please check out the rear of the house, and see if there is another entrance.

[Arkady (James)] Don't get too close.

[Praxis] Um, I'm not sure what you mean by the rear . . .

[Tamora] (minus 1 AC, check)

[Arkady (James)] Oh, OK, I understand now.

[Jeff] Roger has +10 over his max HP, but I don't see anything in temp mods

[Sedlack] That was from the Endurance spell he got last time

[Arkady (James)] So the cliff face goes up a ways beyond to top of the structure.

[Master] Beyond the top? Yes.

[Jeff] Ah, ok

[Shottamip (Tamora)] anyone want mage armor?

Jeff has adjusted Roger's hit points...

[Master] Roger's Current Hit Points: adjusted to 34 (-10) - Unharmed

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Shottamip: Dragon Scales: provides the target with a +4 armor bonus to AC for the next +13 hours (DC=(10+7++1) [10+7+1] 18) Spell failure check (>=+0): (d100) [9] 9 -- spell cast

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Barkskin, anyone?

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Is Turc with us?

[Master] No.

[Arkady (James)] Does barkskin stack with mage armor?

[Shottamip (Tamora)] barkskin is natural armor? I don't have any of that.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Yes. It is natural armor.

[Arkady (James)] Then yes, Arkady would like it.

[Defthon (Don)] FYI if there are likely to be fear attacks, anyone within 10ft of me gets a bonus to the save.

[Arkady (James)] His AC is normally 17.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Mage armor is good against incorporeal creatures. I do not believe that natural armor is

[Master] Thanx for the reminder, Don.

[Arkady (James)] Actually, then we should be casting mage armor on everyone.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Barkskin would be grand if you have one to spare.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] True, but not everything we meet is likely to be incorporeal.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] I have two. Arkady and Shottamip, then?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] We could. It won't stack with our usual armor, however

[Arkady (James)] Or perhaps Vel.

[Arkady (James)] for the barkskin.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] (It being mage armor)

[Arkady (James)] She's in the line of fire more often than I am.

[Arkady (James)] Chris: right. But if we run into a bunch of wraiths or some such.

[Ryan] clearly I need to start memorizing more orf them.

[Sedlack] Agreed. I'm just saying that people can't necessarily just add the +4 from mage armor willy-nilly, is all.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] I will happily take a Mage armor

[Arkady (James)] So let's cast them on everyone, but not update the temp mods for now.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Sounds good

[Shottamip (Tamora)] I have tons of Dragon Scale spells (mage armor) so if it gives you a point or two advantage, then take it.

[Arkady (James)] I can do a couple too.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Okay, I'll do Aedean.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Shottamip: Dragon Scales: provides the target with a +4 armor bonus to AC for the next +13 hours (DC=(10+7++1) [10+7+1] 18) Spell failure check (>=+0): (d100) [40] 40 -- spell cast

[Master] Okay, so is Vel going to scout the place, then?

[Roger (Jeff)] I'll take one

[James] Arkady targets Velkyna. Distance: 15'09"

[Arkady (James)] Arkady: mage armor: is now protected by a shimmering force field. (DC=(10++5++1) [10+5+1] 16) Spell failure check (>=+0): (d100) [9] 9 -- spell cast

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Well, I assume she'll scout the entrance

[James] Arkady no longer targets Velkyna.

[Master] Velkyna: Search (traps, secret doors, etc.) check:41

[Lia (Angie)] Vel should scout and see if there is perhaps a less obvios entrance?

[James] Arkady targets Roger. Distance: 13'02"

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Arkady just did Vel, right? So I'll do Roger.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Oh nemmind.

[Arkady (James)] Arkady: mage armor: is now protected by a shimmering force field. (DC=(10++5++1) [10+5+1] 16) Spell failure check (>=+0): (d100) [22] 22 -- spell cast

[Velkyna] No such luck.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Anyone else?

[James] Arkady no longer targets Roger.

[Velkyna] Solid granite, ten feet through.

[Arkady (James)] I'd like to keep a couple 1st levels in reserve... Can you do the rest Shot?

[Shottamip (Tamora)] And what happened with the Barkskin(s)?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] While Vel is doing that, I've got some Endurance spells. I was thinking: Roger, Dral, myself, and one other person

[Lia (Angie)] Should I take mage armour for the incorporeal protection?

[Arkady (James)] Yes. Mage armor is mostly for incorporeal protection.

[Arkady (James)] For Arkady, it is his only protection. :-)

[Lia (Angie)] what does endurance do?

[Velkyna] bonus to Constitution

[Master] Heh.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] 1d4+1 Con points

[Arkady (James)] Increases your CON. Bonus to saves and HP.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Okay, for Lia:

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Shottamip: Dragon Scales: provides the target with a +4 armor bonus to AC for the next +13 hours (DC=(10+7++1) [10+7+1] 18) Spell failure check (>=+0): (d100) [43] 43 -- spell cast

Velkyna Scouts around a bit more.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Everyone is updating their own temp mods, please?

[Velkyna] Okay, there's no movement inside that I can see -- not even leaves or wind.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Endurance for Roger:

[Lia (Angie)] got it

[Defthon (Don)] Sorry, zoned out for a bit. Who-all got AC bonuses?

[Lia (Angie)] (temp mods

[Arkady (James)] That should be standard policy. But don't bother for the mage armor just yet. We'll take that into account if we fight wraiths or such.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Roll #1: (d4+1) [3+1] 4

[Roger (Jeff)] Thank you

[Lia (Angie)] I've just got it written down

[Velkyna] The door isn't trapped or anything.

[Velkyna] Damn thing isn't even locked.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] So, that's +2 to your Con modifier, Fort save, and +2 HP/lev

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Endurance for Dral:

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Roll #1: (d4+1) [3+1] 4

[Lia (Angie)] I think the whole House of Death does a good job keeping away the riff raff

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Barkskin: +4 AC to Arkady and Shottamip. Stacks with everything else. "Your skin toughens greatly"

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Yes - Mage Armor is an armor bonus. If you wear at least 4 points of armor, then hold it in reserve and remember it if we fight anything incorporeal. If you wear very little armor, then it gives some immediate AC.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Score!

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Endurance for Aedean:

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Thanks Bob.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Roll #1: (d4+1) [2+1] 3

[Arkady (James)] Bob?

Ss'sra (Ryan) smiles and nods

[Master] Ss'sra's nom de guerre.

[Arkady (James)] Ah.

[Dralafi (Jared)] thanks

Tamora has left the game on Sat Sep 10 11:09:58 GMT-10:00 2005

[Defthon (Don)] Is everyone getting mage armor (who isn't getting barkskin)? I'm just trying to figure out whether to keep the +4 I have left on my char sheet from last time. :)

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Don't forget to adjust your max HP, etc.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Who wants the last Endurance?

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Mage armor and barkskin stack. Mage armor doesn't stack with real armor, but barkskin does.

[Defthon (Don)] Aedean: I wouldn't mind getting the HP boost from some extra Con.

[Defthon (Don)] Ss'sra: that contradicts what Shot just says, I think; Mage armor stacks with real armor, but only for incorporeals (right?)

[Velkyna] No.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Mage armor _replaces_ normal armor for incorporeals

[Master] Mage Armor does not stack with regular armor.

[Master] It's just that regular armor has a value of 0 against incoporeal creatures.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Endurance for Defthon:

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Roll #1: (d4+1) [1+1] 2

[Master] DENIED.

[Defthon (Don)] doh.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Hey, you still get 1 extra HP/level

[Arkady (James)] That's nothing to sneeze at.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Testing...

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Aedean: Concentration check:(d20+2+1+9) [6+2+1+9] 18 [ROLL WAS MODIFIED]

[Arkady (James)] Arkady: concentration check:(d20+17) [18+17] 35

[Arkady (James)] Ya gotta put some points into that.

[Defthon (Don)] So I've got Con +1 right now, right?

[Arkady (James)] Yes Don.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] +2 Con, so +1 to you Con modifier

Tamora has joined the game on Sat Sep 10 11:15:13 GMT-10:00 2005

[Velkyna] Okay, so what's the plan?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] The scroll jump is definitely related to users entering the game

[Master] (lunch in t minus 10 minutes.)

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Looks like we have two options: through the door and over the wall

[James] The scroll jump just happened to me too.

[James] If the door is unlocked, there's no point in going over the wall.

[Lia (Angie)] Over what wall, the cliff?

[Master] Let me be more clear, since I think I did a bad job on it.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] The wall in which the door is set, the one that surrounds the courtyard

[Master] There is a granite wall about 15' high, which is what you see when standing outside.

[Master] This wall has an unlocked set of elaborate heavy oak doors.

[James] I've got to leave now. Sorry.

[Master] Within the granite walls, there is a courtyard, with the mosaics mentioned earlier.

[Lia (Angie)] bye for now

[Master] (Aloha, James!"

[Master] )

[Sedlack] Later, James!

[James] Should I stay logged in, or will Don be capturing the log as usual?

[Master] The courtyard leads up to a white marble house set into the cliff face, with only one apparent entrance.

[Defthon (Don)] I'v got it.

[James] Cool. Take care everyone.

[Master] The cliff continues for some 20-30 feet above the top of the House.

[Lia (Angie)] I think going in the unlocked door?

[Defthon (Don)] Could Praxis maybe see if there's an exit on top of the cliff?

[Praxis] I'll look for an obvious one.

Praxis flies off.

[Defthon (Don)] But otherwise, the open door is good. :)

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Sounds good to me. If Vel says there's no trap, I think we can trust that

[Praxis] Praxis: Spot check:21

[Defthon (Don)] Sure, she can't be wrong all the time, right?

[Tamora] I expect it goes down, not up and out.

[Praxis] Nothing obvious up here.

Praxis flies back.

[Velkyna] Can I help you?

Defthon (Don) blinks innocently. "Who, me?"

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] I prefer to go over the wall, in case the door has some magical function -- such as keeping the dead inside.

Velkyna nods to Lia.

Velkyna shrugs

[Velkyna] Okay, back ont he carpets. Let's do something.

[Defthon (Don)] Ooh, good point.

[Defthon (Don)] But couldn't our magic users detect that?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] If we're going over, definitely do so on the carpets

[Master] If they'd bothered to cast detect magic, sure. If not, no.

[Lia (Angie)] so carpets over the wall?

[Velkyna] Okey-dokey.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Cl;imbing over on a rope leaves us too vulbnerable

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Shottamip: Dragon Eyes: can see magical auras in her area (DC=(10+7++0) [10+7+0] 17) Spell failure check (>=+0): (d100) [3] 3 -- spell cast

[Defthon (Don)] See anything, Shot?

[Shottamip (Tamora)] The house, very magical. Doors, clear. I think we might as well walk in.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Clarify: walk in through the outer door, to the courtyard.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Alrighty, then

[Lia (Angie)] Leaving or storing the carpets?

[Master] As you approach the House, those few denizens who watched you arrive with some awe quickly clear out.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Leaving the carpets would be asking for trouble

[Master] You've got Bags of Holding.

[Lia (Angie)] why I asked

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Okay, assume the carpets are out of this world and proceed.

[Master] Joanne sets up shop near the wall, as she figures no one will bother her there.

[Lia (Angie)] proceeding

[Defthon (Don)] Onward...

[Master] The door opens soundlessly, the hinges well-oiled.

[Master] You step into the courtyard; it is as beautiful, as artificial and as silent as it had appeared from the air.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Arkady, please set up the Message spell, thanks.

[Arkady] Of course.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Shottamip: Fortitude save: (d20+8) [12+8] 20

[Shottamip (Tamora)] I am almost but not quite blinded by using Detect Magic in the direction of the House.

[Defthon (Don)] Wow.

[Don] Ok, is that lunch, then?

[Master] Let's go inside first, but yes.

[Master] Vel scouts the area and pronounces it clear.

[Lia (Angie)] Vel, can you find anything around the entrance to the House?

[Lia (Angie)] sorry

[Master] The house has another ornate door, this one made of what appears to be beaten gold over ivory.

[Master] Vel examines the door closely for a few minutes, then puzzledly announces that it is both untrapped and unlocked.

[Lia (Angie)] Great

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Doesn't surprise me. What's inside the house is no doubt protection enough

[Defthon (Don)] Want to just go on in, then?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] And sufficient deterrent

Velkyna carefully opens the door and soundlessly enters, then emerges to announce that the first room, at least is clear.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Okay

[Lia (Angie)] onward

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Let's go in

[Master] The entire first floor is a gorgeous antechamber, with a balcony that runs all the way around along with stairs to that balcony.

[Sedlack] There's no 'c' in 'plaque'

[Master] Someone has taken tremendous care to create a space which is both intensely worked and holds together.

[Lia (Angie)] OOC pretty patterns :)

[Master] Two staircases lead up to the balcony above, but the eye is immediately drawn to a marble plaque with gold lettering in Draconic.

[Master] It says,

[Master] Though it is darkest just before the dawn,

[Master] All mortals eventually find Death's lightless halls.

[Master] Some say that life is a set of traps to be avoided and mysteries solved;

[Master] Others, more sinister, that it is a series of enemies to be defeated.

[Master] Be that as it may, one may tread Death's halls but once,

[Master] Lest ye attract the fell attention of the Gods.

[Master] To create life, and thus to defeat and invite death,

[Master] Two mortals must act as one. So it is here.

[Ryan] So, which of us have to have sex? ;)

[Defthon (Don)] Hoom-hrm.

[Master] Okay, lunch.

[Don] I am away from the keyboard.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Whee. Sounds like we get to split up.

[Dralafi (Jared)] how long we going?

[Sedlack] I am away from the keyboard.

[Dralafi (Jared)] mike, time?

[Jared] I am away from the keyboard.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Michael was thinking a half-hour, but if people need an hour to get back then speak up.

[Master] I am away from the keyboard.

[Master] I am back at the keyboard.

[Master] I'm here to answer questions.

[Don] I am back at the keyboard.

[Don] What is the meaning of life?

[Master] The understanding and eventual withering away of the Self, through service, meditation, and love.

[Don] Nothing about cheap consumables? Gobs and gobs of money? You sure?

[Master] Hey, you asked for the "meaning" of life, not its origin, which lies in rapaciousness.

[Don] Hmm.

[Sedlack] I am back at the keyboard.

[Don] I am away from the keyboard.

[Sedlack] I am away from the keyboard.

[Sedlack] I am back at the keyboard.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] I have a question (Ooh, it automatically syays you're back when you say something, nice feature):

[Master] Yeeeees?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Is there agood reason why numerous monks, Wu, and several dead monsters are still in my campaign tree?

[Master] Tamora isn't seeing them . . . probably because we stopped by their map recently

[Master] Did that change anything?

Jared has left the game on Sat Sep 10 12:09:45 GMT-10:00 2005

[Aedean (Sedlack)] nope. they're still there

[Master] Then they were sent to you, and Klooge doesn't care about cleaning up. A garbage collection might do it.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] gonna try clicking on the trash can

[Aedean (Sedlack)] no effect

[Master] shrug

[Aedean (Sedlack)] not a big deal, anyway

[Aedean (Sedlack)] i'm gonna take a wild guess and say that this room has two exits.

[Master] I'm gonna say that it has no exits - the campaign is now suddenly an existential play!

[Aedean (Sedlack)] we should hang ourselves

[Master] Heh.

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Waiting for the Goddess of Death and Magic...

[Aedean (Sedlack)] It would be cool if she were the goddess of Death XOR Magic

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Death: yes, Magic: yes, Death Magic: no

[Don] I am back at the keyboard.

[Defthon (Don)] Area we waiting for anyone?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] I think we're waiting for most of us

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Oh, wait....

[Aedean (Sedlack)] "We are waiting for Godot"

[Roger (Jeff)] I'm here

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Buck Godot, Zap Gun for Hire!

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Playing a Zip Gun, Blur for 2 additional strikes

[Master] Heh, ther's a suicidal decision.

[Master] Tamora's back in a sec.

[Master] Sound off if you're here?

[Ss'sra (Ryan)] Here.

[Roger (Jeff)] Here

[Aedean (Sedlack)] here

[Lia (Angie)] here

[Master] Don, if you're here, we're here.

[Defthon (Don)] Yup.

[Master] All right -- the one thing you notice upon entering the room is its deathly silence; nothing moves or breathes while you are there.

[Master] Even the dust motes do not dance in the light coming in the windows.

[Sedlack] We don't breathe?

[Master] (The windows are all behid you, above the door.

[Master] Heh.

Velkyna begins a laborious process of searching the room for traps and secret passages.

[Lia (Angie)] we're still moving and breathing, right?

[Master] Yes, sorry to be unclear.

Velkyna is taking some time at this.

[Master] What would you like to do in the meantime?

[Defthon (Don)] Where are the exits?

[Defthon (Don)] Besides the one behind us.

[Velkyna] Working on it.

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Well, we could start talking about how we're going to divide ourselves into the anticipated "traps and mysteries" and "series of enemies" groups.

[Master] THe balconies are about 15' up, with the ceiling another 15' above them. No exits are immediately obvious.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] I vote Velkyna for traps.

[Velkyna] (mutters) I'm going to need a freaking crane....

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Yeah, that one would be a no brainer. I figure that Arkady would be good for that group as well

[Shottamip (Tamora)] I'm better with enemies than mysteries, myself.

[Roger (Jeff)] Enemies!

[Sedlack] She'll need a crane

[Velkyna] A soft femine voice coos from behind Aedean.

[Master] That was me.

[Selina] Ooh, aren't you a cute one?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] From where does it come?

[Defthon (Don)] I'm guessing there will be two exits. Probably one up each stair. But will we know in advance which is which?

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Behind me, duh

Aedean (Sedlack) turns around

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Hey.

[Selina] Appearing to coalesce behind Aedean is a vaguely humanoid being made of pulsing white light.

[Lia (Angie)] What?

[Selina] Oh, surely you've noticed.

[Master] Knowledge: Arcana, Bardic.

[Shottamip (Tamora)] Shottamip: Knowledge (arcana) check:(d20+8) [16+8] 24

[Selina] Arkady: bardic knowledge check:21

[Aedean (Sedlack)] Aedean: Knowledge (arcana) check:(d20+1+6) [10+1+6] 17

[Roger (Jeff)] Roger: Knowledge (Arcana) check:(d20+15) [16+15] 31

[Master] It's a Glimmerskin, a creature from teh Positive Energy plane.

[Master] It pairs up with adventurers and gives them additional power in exchange for some of their XP (effectively).

[Master] It bonds with the character magically and boosts his/her stats.

[Sedlack] XP we already haveo,or XP we'd get in the future?

[Master] The latter.

[Master] Roger, I'll tell you more later.

[Roger (Jeff)] Okily dokily

[Sedlack] But we all know that much

[Master] Yep.

[Sedlack] Permanent bond, or temporary bond?

[Selina] Well, aren't you going to say hello?
