Everyone's here to grade in Kansas City (2016)

Sung to the tune of "Kansas City" from Oklahoma

Lyrics by Don Blaheta

Recit (new acorn):
I got to Kansas City on a Frid'y
By Saturd'y I had learned a thing or two
For up to then I didn't have an i-dee
of what the AP reading people do.

I counted twenty booklets of AP student work
Almost every time I grabbed a pack
'Nen they showed me how to score, and "bubble" (don't you smirk)
And the reading it proceeded right on track

What tasks? What tasks?

Verses (Everybody!):
Everyone's here to grade in Kansas City
the problems that the students had to code
One said to build a chooser that could randomize some words
and only "NONE" if there's no more strings to show!

Everything's like a dream in Kansas City
We work amidst an endless folder flow
The second splits a message and can try to find a name
but only if the keyword has been properly contained
and then pulls out lines and lists the ones that match in their domain

These problems that the students had to code,
four problems that the students had to code.

Everyone's here to grade in Kansas City,
the problems that the students had to code
The third one built a crossword puzzle, labeling the squares
that start a word in a column or a row!

One of the tasks was static methods only,
to format strings so they can fill a row
by calculating total length and basic width of gap
Its last part calls our helpers plus one other we can tap
to full-justify the string with spaces almost 'til it wraps

These problems that the students had to code,
four problems that the students had to code.
